Tender, fruity, seductive, lemony and vibrant dry wine.
The first limestone slab of the great Oolite, inclined towards the East and standing erect like a sentinel facing the South and the plain, the Rotenberg is the earliest Terroir of Bergheim. Its red soil, marked by iron, is deeply calcareous and the highly solar climate is the shared home of Riesling and Pinot Gris. The wines show the characteristics of citrus, less candied than on Grasberg, but fine and very elegant. Rotenberg wines are to be served fairly young. They are fresh and airy with a very aromatic lemony acidic note that is ideal when served with the best types of fish, which are thus illuminated in light that is … almost geological!
Tasted in the dark:
Seafood (Gambas, St Jacques). Noble fish (grilled sea bass steak with orange sauce, roast monkfish with tangerine sabayon, warm spiny lobster with citrus). Fresh or pan-fried foie gras. Chicken (tandoori or with ginger). Cheeses: fresh goat cheese, munster.
Field-blending of Riesling and Pinots.
Tender, fruity, seductive, lemony and vibrant dry wine.
