Terroir of Grave and Marls
Like an open amphitheater facing the south, overlooking the grand cru of Ribeauvillé, the GRUENSPIEL, one of the most qualitative finage of Bergheim, gains its poetic name from the checkerboard, expressing the heterogeneous nature of the surface soil consisting of torrential sandstone deposits, sometimes gneissic granitic, placed on a matrix of deep lacustrine Keuper marls. These features prevailing grape varieties co-planted (Riesling, Pinot, Gewurztraminer) assure the wine a phenomenal length, a slightly tannic structure, a special power gradually rounded by the minerality of hot rolled gravel: “An iron hand in velvet gloves”.
Aging potential : 10 to 15 years. Can be served now, Decanted 1 hour before serving.
Food pairing : Veal. Beautiful poultry ( roasted guinea fowl). Tartar of beef. Game birds (pheasant). Fish in spices. Cheeses: county, époisses cheese, langres, Munster, refined Dutch cheese.
