Rotenberg

A RED SOIL, A HOT CLIMATE AND A TROPICAL WINE

The first limestone slab of the great Oolite, inclined towards the East and standing erect like a sentinel facing the South and the plain, the Rotenberg is the earliest Terroir of Bergheim. Its red soil, marked by iron, is deeply calcareous and the highly solar climate is the shared home of Riesling and Pinot Gris. The wines show the characteristics of citrus, less candied than on Grasberg, but fine and very elegant. Rotenberg wines are to be served fairly young. They are fresh and airy with a very aromatic lemony acidic note that is ideal when served with the best types of fish, which are thus illuminated in light that is … almost geological!

A GREAT WINE, EASY TO ACCESS, SEDUCTIVE AND DANCEABLE

Tasted in the dark:

  • Mental Landscape: a warm, expressive landscape, at first perfectly square, fairly compact, then widening, taking up more and more space, finally becoming clearly sedimentary. Dominant warm colours, saturated and full of life (orange, blue, cocoa, fruit), communicating a warm, ripe, delicious citrus fruit.
  • Mouthfeel: extreme tension of the fabric, partly masking its notorious thickness under the lemony lustre, the twirling voluptuousness, the very soul of Jurassic limestone.
  • Port or energy: energy comes immediately, lively like an uppercut, compact and fruity. It takes off from the seat and sends it into an ascending orbit, ample and of great potential.
